Living in San Sebastián de los Reyes

Founded in 1492, San Sebastián de los Reyes has evolved from a rural municipality into an integral part of the northern Madrid metropolitan area, approximately 18 kilometres from the city centre. Today, it has more than 75,000 residents and retains its historic quarter around Plaza de la Constitución, where the Town Hall and the parish church of San Sebastián Mártir are located.

Its most distinctive tradition is the running of the bulls during the festivities of the Santísimo Cristo de los Remedios, which have been declared an event of tourist interest and are held during the final week of August. Documented since the 16th century, this tradition attracts thousands of runners and spectators every year and is broadcast live throughout Spain. During the rest of the year, cultural life revolves around the Adolfo Marsillach Theatre and the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions, located in the El Caserón building.

For everyday life, “Sanse” offers everything a family needs. Its spaces and facilities include Dehesa Boyal, with 233 hectares of paths for walking, running and cycling; Infanta Sofía University Hospital; an extensive network of schools and sports facilities, and one of the largest concentrations of retail parks in northern Madrid, including the Plaza Norte 2 shopping centre. Other attractions include the Jarama Circuit and the children’s city of Micropolix. All of this comes with excellent connections to the capital via the A-1 motorway, Metro line 10 and the Cercanías commuter rail network.
